LA Vampires & Matrix Metals – So Unreal

Amanda Brown, who is LA Vampires, knows whats up. First she hooked up with the up-and-coming dream pop heavyweight Zola Jesus on a collaborative EP earlier this year which was fantastic on some many levels. And what does she do to follow that up….teams up with the mysterious Matrix Metals (who i believe are from the future) to concoct this work of granulated dream pop ballads, and of course they are skewed to that Matrix Metals magic. Definitely worth a gander….

1. Make Me Over
2. How Would U Know
3. Don’t Dance Alone
4. Berlin Baby
5. Still Going Down

Further Reductions – Decidedly So 7inch

I don’t know how they do it, but that damn Captured Tracks label ceases to amaze me with the quality of their ever-expanding band roster And they didn’t have to go far to seek out Further Reductions, seeing as how both the label and the band are based in Brooklyn, NY. And yes, Further Reductions do follow a similar formula to a lot of their fellow labelmates….basically an 80’s wave (new-, cold-, dark-, etc.) revival. And Further Reductions don’t hide behind the lo-fi curtain which sets them apart from most of the Captured Tracks crew. For when you’re in that Dark Dream Pop mood…

1. Decidedly So
2. Not Unknown

I’m sure they listen to Dark Dream Pop in Taxandria

SLEEP ∞ OVER – Outer Limits 7″

So this Witch House genre has been been taking the blogosphere by storm. Personally, i am all for this 2010 revival of “darkwave” and “dream pop”. And this here is the Outer Limits 7″ (YES, that is the cover art) which features two great cuts by the Austin, Tx trio SLEEP ∞ OVER, which is Christa Palazzolo, Stefanie Franciotti and Sarah Brown. They formed last year and have only released a few EP’s and splits. They plan to have a full LP out by the end of the year. “La Rose” has got insanely rich keyboard melodies that float between on-off key in harmonious ways similar to My Bloody Valentine. And “Outer Limits” has more of this 80’s dream pop ballad feel to it, with heaps of flange and chorus. Music for floating…

2. Outer Limits

here’s what you’re in for….

Candy Claws – Hidden Lands

Listening to Candy Claws is like swimming in sort of a Dream Pop fantasy pond. Their music has a very cinematic quality to it that kind of calls for an individual listening experience, which is definitely not a bad thing, but just so you can let your mind grapes drift into the hands of Candy Claws. “Hidden Lands” is the second full length from the band who are based out of Fort Collins, Colorado. And it’s a wonderful follow-up their previous album “In the Dream of Sealife” which was another reverberated wish-wash of melodies. This time, the songs sound more constructed and polished, but still have that Candy Claws sound that makes them memorable.
