I SHOULD OF POSTED THESE A LONG TIME AGO.

Over the past few months updating this blog has not been a top priority for either of us. I’ve made a few mixes that should of been posted here a while ago if I was in the mood to describe the feelings that these mixes will bring you…I still am not in the mood but I’m just doing this to fill my need to put out content on a daily basis.

The First of the 2 mixes is called Culture Clash and it was an eclectic mix of world musc and a dash garage rock gems, that lead into a more disco/funk boogie section at the end. I did this mix when I was putting together this party in San Francisco and was feeling advantageous at time and was going to make a limited edition zine and hand screen print all the covers of the cds myself. The show came and went and all I got is a mix I hardly shared. But here it is for you now…

The Second is called Swervin’ and it is my usual blend of bass music, rnb re-edits, and uptempo dance jams. Let me not bore you with details and let the music speak for itself. I’ve been writing all day and not really in the mood to write anymore about why I chose these songs or even want to lay out the track listing.

BOOGIE DOWN. FUCK DETAILS.

Also we are having a party on Saturday the 10th at radio bar come join us… 9pm till 2am.

Todd Terje – Ragysh

It’s been over 5years since we’ve heard any “new” songs from Todd Terje. During the past half decade he has been supplying us with some of the greatest edits & remixes of countless disco/house gems. But now, the so-called “Remaster of the Universe” returns to the helm with this sweet 4track EP entitled Ragysh. And now that he has given us another taste of his solo work, we are just left wanting more…

“fresh like” – a mix by eloi

So it’s been a long while since my last mix, so i felt the itch to compile yet another…and here it is!!! I feel it would be perfect for those fantasy nite dance parties where everyone on the dancefloor luminates a pulsating neon glow, or maybe consider it for those weekend trips to the moon. Basically anytime you feel your dancing shoes are due for a spin, “fresh like” will accommodate. So please…indulge. And if you like, you should come party with us at the Radio Bar (in Oakland) on Dec 18 for a Booze-Wazi christmas where we’ll be spinning jams along with DJ Quest with live painting and projections and who know’s what else (costumes? drunk santas? aliens?). Have a gander and pleasure your ears & feet for a while…

Lagos Disco Inferno

One of the highlights from the neverending series of African funk/disco/rock compilations that have been making their way to the surface over the past few years. Lagos Disco Inferno will get you going like a dancing machine. Disco was worldwide in the 70’s and Lagos must have been on fire with these artists hanging around. It’s been fantastic to see the recent dedication to rediscovering lost classics….hats off to those who seek out good music. I like it

Here’s what Dusted Reviews had to say about the comp:
Lagos Disco Inferno is a triumph of a comp, assembling a wide range of disco and boogie sounds from a moment of riotously creative activity. The liner notes paint a picture of a post-war party of unprecedented proportions, “the era of sheer ecstasy,” and the music attests to as much. Here, disco is not the shiny, goofy crap that spawned “Disco Sucks” t-shirts and novelty records, but instead a wide-open canvas for profound body connections, a forum where dancing takes on near-transcendental qualities, where partying isn’t a distraction but a full affirmation of the deepest communal joys

Disco Not Disco Vol. 1

All the way live from New York City. Here’s an excellent collection of those rare “leftfield disco classics” from that wonderful explosion of musical madness that took place there in the late 70’s/early 80’s that brought back the dancefloor. Pretty influential stuff, after hearing this you’ll realize how many people have “borrowed” ideas from this era…DFA in particular. Spectacular oddities lined up perfectly for your underground disco niteclub fantasy. Amazing stuff…

Tracklist
1. Walking On Thin Ice – Yoko Ono
2. Cavern – Liquid Liquid
3. Tell You Today – Loose Joints
4. Spatisticus Autisticus – Ian Dury

7. Kiss Me Again – Dinosaur
8. I Walk – Don Cherry
9. Voices Inside My Head – Common Sense

Yoko Ono’s best song…awkward video though, soft-core w/ Lennon & Ono.

Quick side note, here’s a video for the damn good Michoacan single. He’s a producer from Palo Alto, CA and one of the newest additions to the DFA family.

Prins Thomas Live At Robert Johnson

So I heard Prins Thomas has a new album coming out on March 15 on Full Pupp, so I dug up this CD and put it back into my rotation (i didn’t choose the great Cosmo Galactic Prism since I’ve listened to that one a billiontrillion times) and I was reminded of why Prins Thomas is referred to as the Norwegian “cosmic hero.” He puts out awesome music/mixes/remixes, runs the Full Pupp label, and is a killer DJ. Dudes got impeccable taste and his mixes are proof of that. This is live DJset that he did in Germany in 2009…Here’s some words by Resident Advisor:
On this live mix Prins Thomas re-earns his reputation as one of trippy disco’s mighty overlords. Recorded live at the intimate Robert Johnson club in Frankfurt, it’s much less overtly weird and wonky than Thomas’ two-disc Cosmo Galactic Prism, but still retains the stylish inventiveness that has made the man into a de facto statesman for disco’s recent rehabilitation. The Robert Johnson club becomes a travel simulator, the mix becomes a black-box tape of the flight of the disco navigator.

Super Value – Super Manifesto Mix

New Years…..Disco…..I think so. Get them bum’s shakin at your 2010 Party with this Disco/Nu-Disco mixCD. Italian label, Super Value, put out this mix and shit’s pretty much on fire. Not much is known about Super Value label. Supposedly the name is based on the idea that “value embodies consciousness before price.” According to their myspace, Super Value is a project of two unknown DJ’s who do what they do to celebrate those men and women who were “prophets of timeless sound.” And for the past two years they have been releasing a series of limited 12″s that contain re-edits of classic disco-era gems. Then, Super Value re-edited, re-mixed, re-imagined, and produced one rad 79 minute mixCD. It has 14 tracks but there is no tracklist…..who cares, CokeFaceDisco

There was no vids for any of the tracks on the mix, but to get a feel for Super Value…listen below
