Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg

One of the great French Pop albums from the 60’s and to no surprise….Serge Gainsbourg is involved. Guy was beyond cool, he produced countless amazing records and mingled with the hottest models/actresses/singers. For a while there in the 60’s it seems if you were sleeping with Gainsbourg you’d have an excellent album produced just for you. The single off of this album was actually penned for Bridget Bardot who was Gainsbourg’s lover before Jane Birkin. Looks like Birkin lucked out, because the single “Je t’aime…moi non plus” was a smash. It reached #2 on the UK charts but then was removed from sale and banned in a lot of places throughout Europe because the song contains the sound of Birkin supposedly having an orgasm. The Vatican even denounced because “the lyrics are commonly thought to refer to the taboo theme of engaging in sex without love, and were delivered in a breathy, suggestive style”….prudes.
